Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1) by Karina Halle

Perry Palomino is getting bored to death with her new job as a receptionist and living with her parents even though she is 22. She wants to find something more and to make something more with her life. In a family trip to her uncles house she decides to pay a visit to the lighthouse that is also part of his property. After her very terrifing expirience and her meeting with Dex, a wanna be ghost hunter, her life is turned upside down. She uploads her visit to the internet and she gets more attention than she ever did. Dex soon proposes that they should visit the lighthouse again so they can get footage for a new netshow that he wants to present to his boss. Their next visit will make the first one like a trip to the park.

Firstly, let me say that I could really sympathise with Perry and her situation. I am also a 22-year-old who is afraid of actually finishing uni and going out to the world to find a real job and live a real life. The unknown is really scary and sometimes reality can make you lose yourself. That being said, Perry is kind of stuck with her life and I love that she actually took the risk to follow Dex in his crazy idea, and also follow her dreams. Even though she has kind of a weird past she is a very normal person and someone with whom you can find things in common no matter what.

The second main character is Dex. He is still a mystery and I love that about him. He is so weird, in a good way, actually in a great way. He has that mysterious, dangerous guy thing that I love. We learned a few things about him by the end of the book but I am pretty sure that there are more to come.

The story was a little bit slow in the beginning even if Perry visited the lighthouse in the first chapters not much happened, so I was waiting for the big, creepy, ghostly moment when she would go back. I think that because it's the first book and Perry still doesn't know if she wants to be part of the whole ghost show and she doesn't even know if she believes in ghosts the book had more of an introduction feeling to it. I believe that in the next books things would be so much more interesting. As for the ghost story, I was expecting a little bit of mystery, something the characters would need to figure out and a lot more scary. Unfortunatelly the scene that scared me more was in the last chapter.

Still this is a great start to the series. A series with a lot of potential. I got the second one for free from amazon and can't wait to read more of Perry's and Dex's adventures.
